I think I’m going somewhere but I really don’t know why This empty road I’m traveling leads somewhere in the sky The other travelers that I’ve seen were few and far between Not many people like to climb this high This road, it keeps on turning every night and day Just when I think I’ve reached the top my hold slips away Another night and day, my dreams they slip away Each peak of curiosity keeps me climbing to the next I feel compelled to climb until I’ve reached my proper ledge I only wonder why it seems, when I meet another mind, I always feel it’s me who has to walk along the edge I walk along the edge, I walk along the edge This world, it keeps on turning every night and day Just when I think I’m flying high my dreams slip away Another night and day, my dreams they slip away Well you’re going your way and I’m going mine Two travelers on these rocky slopes with separate peaks to climb I only wish to sit beside you for a little while Sharing words of courage and wise saddened smiles And when I think of you I’ll always feel okay And have the strength to keep on climbing for another night and day Another night and day, my dreams they slip away This world it keeps on turning, every night and day Just when I think I’ve found my place, my dream slips away Another night and day, my dreams they slip away

Black Rose 04:04
The curtains rise on a forest, a river, a tune And then a girl in chorus, running from the moon She flies through darkness guided by the song Of a minstrel by the water with no will to carry on You are my Black Rose, my midnights, my stars You are golden girl, like sunlight on my heart He thinks she’s a spirit sent to lead him on his way To the underworld, to Hades, where forever he will stay She tells him she’s just a woman who wants to fly somewhere But he knows she’s so much more and his song fills the air I’ve been stranded here for many years, searching for the key To open doors of being and creativity Now here you are before me to sweep away despair With honesty and laughter, and love enough to share The Black Rose, she listens, until his work is done And with her lips, she christens, the ship he made of song The poet climbs aboard and takes her hand in his She steps up to her reward and claims him with a kiss The music fades, the lights go dim, the curtain falls, the end.

The Kiss 03:03
I was patiently hoping for a dream to come true and then something happened when I saw you The look in your eyes and smile on your face I knew I’d returned to a welcoming place One kiss just isn’t enough A long time I’ve been searching for love and finally I’ve found the peace that I missed You opened my heart with the first kiss Restlessly waiting to be with you again to hear your laughter and see your grin For your warm embraces and the taste of your lips I’ve come a long way, it’s been a lonely trip Now I’m anticipating another day of loving you I’m glad I was patient ‘cause my dream’s coming true When I looked in your eyes this morning It made me so happy I just want to sing One kiss just isn’t enough A long time I’ve been searching for love and finally I’ve found the person I missed You opened your heart and gave me the kiss

Gentle Love 03:59
I love thee like the bright moon loves the night which cradles in cool dark her love, the moon For even when the moon can give no light the night still gently holds her love, the moon I love thee like the beaches love the surf which washes 'pon them gently, caressing And even when waves crash against the earth the sands are loving, the surf caressing I love thee like the white clouds love the breeze which blows them here and there across the sky It moves and shapes the clouds with loving ease as two together tumble across the sky I love thee most like a man loves fire light which warms his sleep throughout chill winters night

As the knights in sandy camouflage go charging off to war I sit here wathing TV like I did the night before And when I’m sick of watching propaganda choke my soul I find a new reality with my remote control Our leaders seem to live within a fifties TV show It’s a different world we live in now, but to hear them who would know? The talking heads upon the screen predict the whole worlds fate Some say peace and some say war, I hope it’s not too late It’s annihilation without representation Alone we’re powerless to stop the war But maybe together, leaning on each other We’ll build a world with peace for everyone Well I vote whenever possible but it doesn’t seem to work The hill is crowned with bureaucrats and our leader is a jerk So I vote with my TV set and each week’s Nielsen score But all the TV shows combined with never stop the war So now we’ve got another war, I’m dreading what we’ll see As thousands die so we can drive our fat-ass SUV’s And when our friends in misery come home sick from the war We’ll wonder what this syndrome is, like we ain’t seen it before And nobody will talk about the children that we slay We’ll watch it like a Summer flick, Schwarzenegger in a Green Beret I always thought “Thou shalt not kill” was a rule in Christianity Then why are we selling war like a new product on TV?

So here is the princess of Ilium a troubled girl from a troubled time gifted with visions and cursed for what she saw she hid the horror deep inside Cassandra dreamed of fire and blood in the streets she knew her father’s realm was going down but no one wants to hear the sad, sad truth the court was glad to send her to the snakes They chased the prophetess from the castle They sent the prophetess to her knees They made Cassandra bow before Apollo And in his eyes she watched her city die So here is the princess of Ilium kin to the Amazons, priestess of the sun she tended the serpents of Apollo and kept her mind and body to herself But when the serpents died and earthquakes shook the halls she knew the day she’d foreseen was at hand but terror leaves no time for breath or vindication she ran to save her mother, her queen But they chased the prophetess to the temple Brought the prophetess to her knees They raped Cassandra there before Athena And took her from the altar to their king Cassandra could see things that everyone ignored The soldiers were leading Ilium to war She showed them the signs, by Apollo she swore Her father was leading her family to war So here is the princess of Ilium a slave to the Mycenean king kin to the Amazons, priestess of the sun and victim of Apollo’s ancient pride Cassandra could see her mother still alive a servant to the lord of odysseys so she looked deeply into Agamemnon’s eyes and smiled when she saw that he’d soon die But they chased the prophetess to the temple Brought the prophetess to her knees They raped Cassandra there before Athena And took her from th e altar to their king

Violet 04:09
Hello, darkness, my dearest friend Bringing new wonders again and again Black candles burning, a shadow of light Blow them out one by one and welcome the night Good night, Violet I see the world in your eyes Good night, Violet When you wake I will be by your side Midnight. I can see again Pale, viloet eyes casting light on my skin There’s a queen in the darkness and an emerald knight Cry to the songbirds, “Let this dream take flight!” But the wind doesn’t sing when there’s no one at home and the rain doesn’t drum when I’m feeling alone The clouds never part when you don’t have a home And the moon never shines on a lover alone Goodbye, Darkness, my best friend I know I’ll see you again in the end But now comes the sunrise, bringing new light Glowing in violet eyes, farewell the night I will be here when you rise…

Darkness 04:38
dark song slowly softly sweetly a dirge of eternity paternity, maternity twist to land on feet claw for air to gasp to breathe, to swim, to live i’m taking on air, i’m rising i’m taking on air, rising taking on air, i’m floating away i’m taking on air, i’m rising nowhere, nowhere laying back in the crosshairs lips embrace the darkness looking for another way show you, yes, i’ll show you darkly, slowly softly, sweetly feel the love inside hold you, i can squeeze you i’m taking on air, rising taking on air, i’m floating away i’m taking on air, i’m rising nowhere, nowhere

Spancil Hill 03:14
Last night as I lay dreaming of pleasant days gone by Me mind being bent on rambling, to Ireland I did fly I stepped on board a vision and followed with me will, til next I came to anchor at the cross near Spancil Hill It being the twenty-third of June, the day before the fair, When Ireland’s sons and daughters in crowds assembled there, The young, the old, the brave and the bold, their duties to fulfill There were jovial conversations at the Fair of Spancil Hill I went to see my neighbors to hear what they might say, The old ones were all dead and gone, the young ones turning gray, I met the tailor Quigley, as bold as ever still, Sure he used to make me britches when I lived near Spancil Hill I paid a flying visit to my first and only love, She’s as fair as any lily, and as gentle as a dove, She threw her arms around me saying, “Johnny, I love you still.” Oh, she is a farmer’s daughter, the flower of Spancil Hill I dreamt I hugged and kissed her as in the days of yore, She said, “Johnny you’re only joking, like so many times before.” But the rooster he crew in the morning, he crew so loud and shrill And I woke in California many miles from Spancil Hill

Ten years ago on a cold, dark night There was somebody killed ‘neath the town hall light Few were on the scene, but they all agreed The one who did the killing looked a lot like me She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me The judge said, “Son, what’s your alibi? If you were somewhere else, then you don’t have to die.” But I spoke not a word though it meant my life For I’d been in the arms of my best friends wife She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me The scaffold was high and eternity near I saw her in the crowd, but she shed not a tear But sometimes late at night when the cold wind moans She visits my grave and cries o’er my bones She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me

There’s really no denying that medicine ain’t cheap But the CEO’s are rolling in fields of cash they reap When there’s people dying cause they can’t afford to live It’s time to stop the taking, something’s got to give When every other nation, that we call civilized Will take care of their people, from birth until they die Why can’t my home, America, give all of us health care? Why must I go to Canada to buy my meds up there? So let’s get together for America Land of equality, home of the free Let’s put Howard Dean in the white house Cause it’s our house, not George Bush’s house Let’s get on track and take our country back Well civil rights have come so far, and many more can vote But there’s still lots of work to do, just have a little hope Join hands with our community, together we’ll Move On Cause the bigots and the racists and homophobes are wrong Our nation is a Common Dream of a just society. With hope, mouse-pads and shoe leather, we’ll make it reality Where all the different stripes of folks can live in Common Cause, And overcome our differences, our ignorance and flaws. So let’s get together for America Land of equality, home of the free Let’s put Howard Dean in the white house Cause it’s our house, not George Bush’s house Let’s get on track and take our country back If you want a healthy country, better vote for Dean For fiscal sanity we better vote for Dean For true security we have to work for peace To keep your privacy you better vote for Dean For education funding better vote for Dean For real diplomacy we’ve got to fire Bush Cause regime change starts at home The credit card conservatives wanna make the government drown In a sea of debt so they can tear our safety nets all down With lies they desecrate our flag, with wars they pay their friends But talk is cheap and life is dear, for them ‘04’s the end We’ve got to face the fact that we’re addicted to crude oil And with our cash we feed the flames that make the Mid-East boil The greedy gunboat ain’t the face this poor world needs to see From a nation that was built to shine the light of liberty So let’s get together for America Land of equality, home of the free Let’s put Howard Dean in the white house Cause it’s our house, not George Bush’s house Let’s get on track and take our country back

about

This is a collection of my older home recordings of original songs written during my teens to my 30s. A few were recorded on a Tascam 4-track tape recorder in the 90s. Another few were recorded in the early 00s on an iMac. The majority were recorded during the Summer of 2009 with the help of an old friend and Logic. We never did much production and most were demos. But they were the best I was able to make before life swept me away again.
